Aviation development

Darwin Airport is Australia’s northern gateway. It connects over 2 million domestic and international passengers to the Northern Territory.

Throughout its history, Darwin has played an important role in Australian aviation. Darwin was home to Australia’s first international flights in 1919. During COVID, Darwin Airport was the first airport in the Asia-Pacific region to welcome commercial flights from every inhabited continent.

The airport is open 24/7 with runways and terminals capable of handling aircraft as large as the Airbus A380.

Darwin Airport has an intimate yet efficient terminal that offers travellers a unique arrival experience. World-class resorts or nature reserves are within easy walking distance of the terminal.

In Darwin, the walk from the gate to a swimming pool can be shorter than the walk from gate to taxi rank at Australia’s major airports.

Freight operators have access to a range of services including cold storage and vapour heat-treatment for fruit exports.
