Airport access

Information about airport access for employees or companies working at Darwin International Airport.

Access process

Airports operate within a highly regulated environment and special conditions and regulations apply which may not apply at other workplaces, such as Aviation Safety (Civil Aviation Safety Authority), Security (Dept of Home Affairs – Aviation and Maritime Security Division) and Biosecurity compliance requirements. All persons obtaining a DIA ASIC, Access Card or Access Control Permissions are required to sit the DIA Online Security Induction. The induction is a mandatory requirement with the objective of keeping DIA safe and secure for all passengers and staff.

To prepare for your induction, you will need to download and read the guidebook “DIA Security and Safety Awareness Guide

Organisation and Contractor Onboarding

All contracting companies that conduct works at Darwin International Airport must now be registered on our Contractor Management system, Who’s On Location. This system contributes to our safety management by enabling the airport to:

  • Ensure all safety requirements such as inductions have been completed
  • Identify how many contractors are conducting works on site at any given time
  • Confirm that all business insurances are current

To register your business, please fill in the Business Registration Form.

Once registered, each business will direct employees that will be working at the airport to fill in the Contractor Registration Form.

Each employee will then be sent a link to download the Who’s On Location app onto their mobile phone. This will enable them to automatically sign in and sign out whilst working at Darwin International Airport.

The Working on Airport induction will be emailed to each team member. The induction provides information relating to the following:

  • Work Health and Safety (WHS) Guidelines
  • Aviation Safety & Security Requirements
  • Drug and Alcohol Management Plan
  • Contractor Roles and Responsibilities

The induction must be completed PRIOR to arriving onsite and will need to be renewed every 2 years.

Please be aware that checks will be conducted at random to ensure compliance with these safety regulations.

In addition to the above registration forms, new companies will also be required to register with the Security Department to obtain Identification Cards, Access Control permissions or Electronic Keys. To register with the security department, please complete the DIA Security Registration Form.
